"On May 8th, The Student Coalition for the Reinstatement of Dr. Monteiro with Tenure held a large rally  on the corner of Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The rally held nearly  200 people made up of  professors, activists, community members, and members of the press.Guest speakers at the event included CNN political analyst Marc Lamont Hill, Philadelphia activist Pam Afrika, and keynote Dr. Cornel West.The afternoons protestors were demonstrating in the ongoing effort to restore Temple professor Dr. Anthony Monteiro to his previous post at the University with tenure.Dr. Monteiro was employed at Temple University on a year-to-year basis for ten years. He was informed at the end of the 2013 academic year that his contract would not be renewed."

Student protestors were in full support of Dr.Monteiro and his reinstatement in front of Morgan Hall.

Tony Monteiro and Dr. Cornel West stood in solidarity during the open remarks by the Student coalition.

Student activists also appeared in solidarity with Dr. Monteiro, and spoke on the lack of living employment for African-American and Latino communities in Philadelphia, and severe cases of gentrification of North Philadelphia.

 Dr. Monteiro looked optimistically at the level of support he had galvanized for the cause of his reinstatement.Image Supporters of all ages organized in support of Dr. Monteiro and his cause. Here is an elder community member who stood with a sign detailing her stance.

During Dr. Wests passionate speech he stated that  "When you attack Tony Monteiro, you attack a black man named Cornel West too. Ain't no doubt about that"- Cornel West

 As the Sun set on Broad Street, Dr. Monteiro looked onward very pleased and confident about the outcome. At the end, He, Dr. West, and Hill embraced at the success of the afternoon and their hopes for tomorrow.

 The decision to reinstate Dr. Monteiro by Temple Administration will officially be made in the Summer of 2014.
